Out Of Kilter started when I was 15. OOK put out a couple of CD releases, got featured in a couple (literally: two) magazines and organised a bunch of really fun all ages shows. When I was fifteen that felt like success. anyway, ook is long gone now, but here's everything ever released on the label. Download it for free :]

The Henderson - In Miracle World EP

"The Henderson are A) too young to be this good and B) too New Zealand to get airplay overseas, so we thought we'd help them out. On spectacular kiwi label Out of Kilter, their new record In Miracle World will shortly be laying their homeland to waste, so it's only fair we let you have an early listen"
- PlayMusic Magazine UK, November 2006.

There are still copies of this one floating around. 500 got printed by Dualplover in Australia, so if you really want one try emailing me outofkilternet (at) gmail (dot) com.

Mechano - Self Titled EP

"So I saw these guys live on Friday and I text messaged, mid-set, an absent friend that they were "fucken amazing, like fat gut strut chicks meet the klaxons with animal from the Muppets on drums". Then I bought their EP. Recorded they seem a bit tighter and cleaner, which could be either a good or bad thing, I suppose. Thankfully, in Mechano's case it's a REALLY good thing. Mark's incredibly witty and disaffected lyrics bounce off and around infectious post-punk dance beats. I think I have found my new favorite local band, but fuck, they're from Wellington. Keyboard? Yes! Neon Hoodies and Fake Smiles? Thankfully, Fuck No!" -

The Insurgents / Henderson Experience split EP

I don't have the disc-art for this one unfortunately (so the pooch above will have to do), but I remember my good friend Nick Robinson designed it in like, I dunno, paint or something? It looked mean as though, so me and Josh Black went to warehouse stationary, bought one of those kits for printing CD labels and got stuck into our "first release".

The good ol' days
We put on a bunch of shows back in the day. It was a pretty formative time (in my opinion) for Christchurch music, with all the members of these bands going on to bigger and better things as they got older. Regular gigs were held at venues like Creation (RIP), The Penthouse and Zebedees with bands like The Insurgents, Hype!, Blow Charlie, Ink, Coolade, The Henderson (WGTN), Black Market Art, Neil Robinson, A Flight To Blackout, The Tiger Tones and others.

These bands have (with the exception of Tiger Tones) all broken up, but members went on to bands like: O'Lovely, No Aloha, T54, Bang Bang Eche, Valdera, Boyfriend, Little Pictures, Hyacinth Girl, Sleepy Age, Magic Eye and Wet Wings.

Anyway, for posterity's sake, here is a bunch of posters from some of my favourite OOK shows. These all took place between 2004-2007.

Big thanks to Joe Veale, Josh Black, Hadley Donaldson, Chris Andrews, Ian Jorgenson, Fran Miller-Pezo and Neil Robinson. And to all the kids who used to come out to shows (/were in the bands) when we were all still young and enthused.
